Jewish Ethiopian Consulting Cabinet

The history of the Jews in Ethiopia goes back for millennia. The largest group claiming to be historically Jewish are the Beta Israel, also known as Ethiopian Jews.

In the early 1960s, Israel started helping the Ethiopian government in its campaigns against the Eritrean Liberation Front (ELF). The Ethiopian government portrayed the Eritrean rebellion as an Arab threat to the African region, an argument that convinced the Israelis to side with the Ethiopian government in the conflict. By 1966, there were around 100 Israeli military advisors in Ethiopia

In 1984, Ethiopia was in the midst of a civil war which killed tens of thousands of people and lasted, on and off, well into the first years of this century. Between 1983 and 1985, northern Ethiopia also suffered a devastating famine, which killed nearly half a million people. Hundreds of thousands fled to Sudan, and other neighbouring countries, in search of food and security.

Jewish Ethiopian Consulting Cabinet is being established to facilitate the new UN Peace Ambassadors that will make up the Cabinet. Their aim is to review and approve appropriate African projects and initiatives that will be presented to the government at the highest level for governmental approval. All these projects will comply with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The Cabinet will act in an advisory position covering a variety of subjects including Sustainable Agriculture, Child Education, Health, Nutrition, Reforestation etc.

Consultative Status to the ECOSOC is the highest status granted by the United Nations to non-governmental organizations (NGO's), thereby allowing them to participate in the work of the United Nations.

These Ambassadors will become members of 'The Class of Steele' and they will be allocated to the various Consulting Cabinets around the world including East Africa, Asia (India), Israel and the CARICOM initially.
